ANALYSIS: New Tourism Agency faces several barriers to boosting visitor numbers

The Japanese government will create a Tourism Agency in October as an affiliated body to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and have it play the leading role in promoting tourism. It will be the first governmental agency to be established since the Financial Services Agency was created in 2000.

Japanese tourism to Kenya falling off

The number of Japanese tourists visiting Kenya has dropped sharply over the past year, according to Kenyan tourism officials. Just 13,000 Japanese tourists visited the East African country in 2007 compared with some 15,000 the previous year, representing a 12 percent drop, the officials said.
