The climate in Japan differs considerably in different parts of the islands. Weather at country south is more tropical and humid. Geologically, Japan is very active due to the plates that it sits on and there are over one hundred and fifty volcanoes on the islands with half of them active. It consists of over three thousands islands many of which are very mountainous with stunning landscape. Most of the Japanese countryside is covered in forest.
With thousands of years of great history, tourist will find many stunning old temples and castles dated back to ancient Japan. Through the years, Japan has played an important part in arts, more notably in printmaking and in garden design. There are many art centres showing how traditional arts are made. Traditional sports, such as archery, judo and karate are common and in some regions samurai sword fighting is popular. There are also many great museums on traditional art of warfare. Sumo wrestling is the most popular traditional sports while baseball, football and rugby are the most popular modern sports.
Being at the forefront of fashion, cosmetics, electronics and gadgets, shopping in Japan is always a pleasant experience. Traditional foods and western foods are equally popular. Traditional dishes tend to be served in small portions with many dishes being served raw. Rice is served with most meals and the most common drink is green tea.
The Japanese people are extremely hospitable by nature. Tourism is a mature industry in Japan and travelers will always be impressed by the excellently warm hospitality at hotels and tourist attractions.
